A Journey of Dreams and Disappointments
As India marks its 76th Republic Day, it’s crucial to reflect on the significance of January 26th. Is it being celebrated to honor or undermine its founding principles?
What is the difference between PM Modi and a gangster running a crime syndicate? They both support and protect criminals, plunder public wealth, and justify their actions in ways that defy common sense.
PM Modi and his government have been a threat to every principle that Republic Day represents in India, including the idea of India being a fully sovereign republic.
Let’s examine why India observes Republic Day on January 26th and how the current government undermines the core reasons that led to its inception in 1950.
India celebrates Republic Day on January 26 every year to commemorate the day when the Constitution of India came into effect in 1950. This event marked the transformation of India from a British Dominion to a fully sovereign republic.
Key Reasons for Celebrating Republic Day:
Adoption of the Constitution:
- On January 26, 1950, the Constitution of India replaced the Government of India Act 1935 as the governing document of India.
- The Constitution was drafted by the Constituent Assembly, led by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar as the Chairman of the Drafting Committee.
Significance of January 26:
- The date was chosen to honor the Purna Swaraj Declaration of 1930, when the Indian National Congress proclaimed complete independence from British rule.
Democratic Transition:
- It marked the formal establishment of India as a sovereign, socialist, secular, and democratic republic, ensuring equality, liberty, and justice for all citizens.
Celebration of National Unity:
- Republic Day celebrations emphasize India’s diversity and unity. The grand parade in New Delhi, showcasing cultural heritage, military strength, and technological advancements, reflects this spirit.
Republic Day is a symbol of India’s commitment to democracy and its journey toward self-governance and nation-building.
Economic Survey 2023-24 highlighted China as a major threat to India’s manufacturing sector. Yet, the union government has increased dependence on China. Why is PM Modi’s government surrendering to China and supporting its economy despite the constant threat to India’s sovereignty?
There were several policy changes made in India Since 2014 to help large corporate bosses like Mukesh Ambani and Gautham Adani. These policies were often designed to meet the needs of the beneficiaries rather than to grab headlines. Thus it enabled them to benefit from the changes.
The Union Government of India announced an increase in the minimum wage, with the new rates taking effect from October 1, 2024. Following the revision, the minimum wage rates are as follows:
Inquire in your respective states to find out how much the union government is paying to those working under the union government’s rural employment scheme (MGNREGA). Will the union government classify them as unskilled workers eligible for ₹783 a day?
Will the union government consider plumbers, welders, carpenters, masons, and electricians as semi-skilled or skilled workers? Are they entitled to receive ₹1,035 a day, and is this rule applicable across India?
The increase in the minimum wage was merely a move to grab headlines and is therefore incomplete. What are workers supposed to do if employers insist on hiring only those willing to work for ₹500 a day? Is there a mechanism in place to address this issue? In Kerala, MGNREGA workers earn a little over ₹300, and only those willing to work for that amount are allowed to continue.
There is a great demand for plumbers, welders, carpenters, masons, and electricians in Kerala, who can earn ₹1,000 or more per day. However, the majority of locals remain unemployed due to the influx of migrant laborers from West Bengal, Odisha, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar.
Skilled workers such as plumbers, welders, carpenters, masons, and electricians from Bengal, who earn ₹1,000 a day in Kerala, would prefer to stay in Bengal if they could earn ₹783 a day in their own state.

Mukesh Ambani’s Jio is making profits comparable to the combined earnings of AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon. Jio offering 1GB of data at 15 cents is achieved by exploiting workers and is not aimed at creating equality; instead, it is a product of inequality.
What has the union government done for the poor working class to counter the persistent inflation that continues to rise with each passing day? What has PM Modi done for the poor farmers, students, and the armed forces of this country?
A mob could invade your kitchen to search for beef or kill you on suspicion of consuming it. Equality, liberty, and justice for all citizens are best demonstrated by the union government who blocks opposition leaders from visiting places where incidents of rape, murder, arson, and riots occur. Such events have become increasingly frequent since 2014.
How can Rahul Gandhi or Priyanka Gandhi, along with 50 or 100 unarmed followers visiting places where incidents of rape, murder, arson, and riots occurred, cause a law and order issue? A law and order issue does not arise when RSS cadres, armed with 6-foot-long lathis, visit such places. Opposition leaders are not allowed to speak in Parliament; their microphones are turned off, or their arguments are not taken seriously at all.
Usually, when significant restrictions are imposed on opposition parties, they tend to organize strikes across India (Bharat Bandh) to exert pressure on the government which causes business losses.
Despite facing numerous restrictions, Congress appears unconcerned. Congress is quick to criticize regional parties, such as AAP, particularly when they undergo intense scrutiny from central agencies like ED and CBI.
